September 25, 2009: We didn't bother ordering ants -- there were plenty to be had at our neighborhood park, and my little scientist appreciated the experience even more, I expect, for having been there at the Capture. The colony has been thriving since early this summer, and it's nearly October as I write this. It's on his northeast-facing window sill, where it captures a little bit of morning sunlight. He likes to check it out every day while he dresses for school. In fact, sometimes, *instead* of getting dressed for school. I can't get too upset, though. After all, it's Science!

September 25, 2009: I'm old fashioned, and grew up with sand ant farms. But I decided to shake things up. My Power Ranger-loving son loves the Ivan Ooze-ness of this stuff and watching the ants tunnel thru it.
